Title-winning Himbleton end season with defeat to runners-up Kempsey

HIMBLETON’s Worcestershire County League Division Three title-winning campaign ended in defeat to runners-up Kempsey.

In a game which felt very much ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’ following last week’s celebrations, Himbleton struggled for motivation and runs as Kempsey’s bowlers found a good line and length.

Only explosive innings from Rich Pretty (43) and Sean Jenkins (44) propelled the Meadow Boys to a respectable total.

A flurry of late order wickets led captain Stuart Dickenson to declare at 165-8 from 39 overs.

Kempsey’s reply was once again built around their talisman Zak O’Neill (82 not out) as he led his side to victory four wickets down off 35 overs.

Dickenson said: “It was a lacklustre end to the season but nothing can take away the fact we’ve had a brilliant season and ended up a champions.

“It was a magnificent team effort to win this division and I’m really pleased for everyone involved at Himbleton.”
