THE OPENING round of the singles knockout competition in the Droitwich Pool League started with a flourish on Wednesday night.
Eight players from six different teams are safely through into the quarter-finals of the competition, with Masons All Chalked Up and The Doverdale Arms both set to be represented by two of their players in the next round of the competition.
Mid-West Premiership leaders Barley Mow, The Star & Garter, DWMC and The Pillar of Dreams are the other sides who have sealed their progression into the last eight.
Current singles champion Matt Stinton, who plays for The Star & Garter, had no problem in starting his title defence, while Barley Mow’s Nathan Gwin, Mason’s Connor Harper and Sam Sanders, DWMC’s Andy Larner and Doverdale duo Alan Room and Rob Greenfield are also through.
Jake Cooper, of The Pillar of Dreams, then overcame a difficult opening-round tie to become the final player to advance.
With league action resuming next week, the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the singles tournament will be contested on the same night on Wednesday, April 29.
