DROITWICH recovered from back-to-back defeats in sublime fashion, thrashing Wellington Amateurs 8-0 in West Midlands (Regional) League Division One.

The Saltmen had been winless in three games since beating Tipton Town in mid-February, losing their last two to Old Wulfrunians and Wrens Nest, but broke that run in emphatic style on Wednesday night with Ben Tilbury leading the way with a hat-trick.

Spa opened the scoring early in the game, when Andy Crowther provided the assist for Jack Allerton to ping the ball into the top-right corner.

Then came a quickfire treble from the hosts.

Newcomer Callum Morris netted a brace on his debut for the first-team, before Tilbury got in on the act to make it 4-0 before half-time.

The scoring for the half wasn’t finished there, though, as Morris sealed his hat-trick before Tilbury scored his second of the night to make it 6-0 at half-time.

Although the second half did not prove to be as one-sided, Tilbury sealed his hat-trick while Morris added a fourth, with the visitors reduced to nine men by the final stages of the game.

Droitwich Spa remain fifth in the table, and next head to second-bottom side Willenhall Town in their final away fixture on Saturday (3pm). The Saltmen were 4-0 victors in the sides’ first meeting.
