Oliver pleased as Droitwich Spa move up to second

DROITWICH Spa moved up to second in the West Midlands (Regional) League Division One table after claiming back-to-back 4-0 home victories in the space of five days.

The Saltmen completed an early season double over Sikh Hunters last Saturday, thanks to goals from James Lemon, Jack Davies, Matthew Hunt and Brad Burgess.

Davies, Lemon, Dan Cottrill and Haydn Morris then scored in Wednesday night’s victory over Willenhall Town at Walshes Meadow, the home of Stourport Swifts.

“We can have no complaints with how we performed in the two games,” said joint-boss Oliver.

“The Sikh Hunters clash was a very physical encounter and by no means was it an easy 4-0 victory.

“They had some chances and we probably scored against the run of play before getting the second straight after which took some of the pressure off us.

“Willenhall were a different test and to be fair to them they played well.

“We coped well, worked well and gave minutes to those that needed them so overall it was a good exercise for us.”

Up next for Spa is a home clash against league leaders Team Dudley on Saturday but Oliver insisted the result of the top-of-the-table clash does not matter at this early stage.

“We’ve heard good things about Dudley but it’s too early in the season to consider the effect the result will have on league positions come the end of the campaign,” he added.

“We haven’t even played ten games yet so we’ll reach that mark first, assess things and then focus on games 11 to 20.”
