FOOTBALL - Dugmore header hands Droitwich Spa victory at Bromyard

Droitwich Editorial 3rd Feb, 2022   0

ALEX DUGMORE’s bullet header secured a narrow 1-0 win for Droitwich Spa away at Bromyard Town to keep their promotion bid on track.

Dugmore’s goal came on 50 minutes from Luke Molloy’s corner was the only moment of quality in a largely uneventful affair in front of 150 spectators at Delahay Meadow.

The result lifts Spa up to second in the West Midlands (Regional) League Division One table as they trail leaders Gornal Athletic by 13 points with three games in-hand.

Both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances in windy conditions on a difficult surface with defences on top for much of the afternoon.

Perry Moss and Jack Brighton impressed for the Saltmen down the right-hand side in the first-half although goalkeepers Matt Oliver and Alex Rhodes were not forced into into any kind of noteworthy save.

It was fitting that a defender scored the game’s only goal when Dugmore rose highest to plant a bullet header into the far corner from Molloy’s set-piece for his fifth goal of the season.

Spa boss Andy Crowther made several defensive-minded changes before the final whistle to protect the lead with Jack Davies and Haydn Morris shooting off target at the other end.

Droitwich are next in action at home to Sikh Hunters in the League Cup on Saturday, February 5 with kick-off at 3pm at Walshes Meadow.
