DROITWICH Spa have been officially crowned as West Midlands Regional League Division One champions to secure promotion to step six for the first time in the club’s history.

The Saltmen went unbeaten in the league since October and clinched the title by two points ahead of Gornal Athletic who they beat 3-2 in a five-goal thriller in their final game of the season.

And Spa were awarded the points for their postponed clash against AFC Bentley after their opponents failed to fulfil the fixture to finally be confirmed as champions.

That means Droitwich finish the season on 79 points having scored more goals (93) than any other side in the division.

Spa also boast the best defence, conceding a league low 24 goals, and won all 15 of their home matches at Walshes Meadow.

Andy Crowther’s side embarked on a remarkable run to finish the campaign, winning their final seven matches in the space of just 14 days.

Following their success, the club would like to thank their many loyal fans and sponsors who have supported the club throughout the campaign.

And Droitwich have the chance to complete a league and cup double after a 3-1 win against Gornal Colts secured their place in this weekend’s League Cup final.

James Lemon and Connor Collins were both on target for the Saltmen after an own goal put Spa ahead at the Dell Stadium.

Spa will be presented with the League Winners Shield ahead of the cup final this weekend.

Droitwich will play Bromyard Town in the League Cup final on Saturday, May 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Billbrook Junior Football Club.
