Droitwich's Ladies D, Mixed A and Mixed C teams crowned summer league champions

THE DROITWICH Ladies D team finished as Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League Division Seven East champions after winning their final match of the season at home to Manor Park D.

Caroline Hawley and Angela Creese continued their prolific form with an excellent 7-6, 7-5 win in their first match followed by a 6-2, 6-1 victory in their second.

Julie Rhodes and Alison Whiteman won their first match 6-2, 6-4 and were unlucky to lose their second in a tight match which ended 1-6, 6-4, 4-6.

Alexa Dean and Eileen Probyn-Skinner produced two determined performances to win them both 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 respectively.




The Mixed A team finished as champions of Division Two following a 4-0 victory over Bewdley A.

Dee Smith and Jon Sarriegui fought hard to win their first match 7-5, 6-2 before a solid 6-1, 6-1 victory in their second.


Marelize Yorke and Neil Bates were equally as impressive in both of their matches winning 6-1, 7-6 and 6-3, 6-2 respectively to secure the points.

There was also joy for the Mixed C who clinched the Division Five East with a winning draw over Kidderminster.

Despite the best efforts of husband and wife duo Chris and Jackie Passey, they lost both of their respective matches 6-4, 5-7, 4-6 and 0-6, 1-6.

Nick King and Heather Fellows were the stars for Droitwich with two superb 6-2, 7-5 and 6-4, 6-1 victories.

The Ladies F brought the curtain down on the Division Eight East season with a commanding 5-1 victory over Bewdley E.

Helen Bibbey and Kate Bates produced some excellent shots to win their first match 6-0, 6-0 but were beaten 2-6, 4-6 in their second.

Marta Ivancova and Julia Brown were in excellent form and raced away with two 6-1, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-0 victories respectively to put Droitwich in control.

Fiona Fogg and Melanie Cook produced two near perfect performances to win both of their respective matches 6-0, 6-0 and claim the convincing win which leaves Droitwich fifth in the league table.

Elsewhere, the Mixed B team avoided the drop from Division Two after securing a 4-0 win at Ombersley A.

Caroline Brookes and Ben Steel played some fine tennis to win both of their matches 6-2, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-1 respectively.

Linda Price and Rich Clive then battled back from behind to win their first match 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 before a solid 6-1, 6-3 win in their second.
