Droitwich Spa stay top with fine win over Allscott

HIGH-FLYING Droitwich Spa consolidated top spot in the league standings with a 3-0 victory over Allscott.

West Midlands One leaders Spa moved five points clear at the top of the table following last Saturday’s win in Shropshire.

James Lemon opened the scoring for the Saltmen before Ben Tilbury notched his second goal in two games since joining on a dual registration deal from Alvechurch.

Tilbury was at it again on the hour mark when he fired home the third with the help of a deflection.

Joint-boss Wayne Oliver said: “It was a really good away performance.

“Being critical we probably should have won by a bigger margin considering the chances we created.

“There are areas we can improve on too but on the whole it was a really pleasing afternoon for us.

“Everything seems to be coming together nicely so we want that to continue.”

On Saturday, Spa welcome Worcester Raiders to Walshes Meadow in a top-of-the-table clash but Oliver stressed there’s not a lot riding on the game.

“It’s too early in the season so whatever happens on Saturday won’t have a massive impact on what the table looks like come May,” he said.

“We have had some good battles with Raiders in the county cups before so we’re looking forward to playing them in the league.

“They’re always high-scoring encounters so I think Saturday’s game will be a good advert for what both sides are trying to achieve this year.”
