Droitwich Spa CC continue winning run in Worcestershire Indoor League

DROITWICH SPA Cricket Club made it two wins from two in the Worcestershire Indoor League, beating Avoncraft by four wickets with only four balls to spare.

A close encounter between the sides started with Avoncroft looking in danger at 65-5 in the first eight overs.

But Dan Elliot stepped up to hit 42 not out, taking his side to 99 – not the most remarkable score, but it at least gave them a chance of running out Droitwich.

Spa’s Max Young (23) and Martyn Davies (26) got their side off to a flyer as the opening batsmen, although the latter’s retirement slowed the overall run rate as momentum was lost.

The change of bowlers helped Avoncroft mount a comeback, with Elliot having a fine all-round game when conceding a mere 18 runs from his three overs bowled.

Droitwich required six runs from the final over for victory, so when captain Rhys John – who finished on 13 overall, struck three from the first ball, it made Matt Gurr’s task all the more simpler.

He duly crashed the ball against the boundary from the second ball to wrap up the win.

Spa next meet Barnards Green on Sunday, hoping to maintain their 100% winning start to the season.
