Drew ready for Droitwich's top of the table clash at Evesham

DROITWICH boss Adam Drew hopes his players will be firing on all cylinders this weekend ahead of their Midlands Three West (South) top of the table clash against local rivals Evesham.

Drew’s side made it three wins out of three on Saturday as they enjoyed a 38-9 victory at Birmingham-based Woodrush.

Tries from Ben Smith (2), Dan Wilkinson, Bradley Smith, Sam O’Brien, Pete Knight, James Shewell and Rob Poke and two conversions from Bobby Scott-Walker ensured the early league leaders came away with the five points.

And with a trip to Evesham, who also boast a 100 per cent winning record after three games, on Saturday (October 8), Drew says he expects his players to turn up and get the job done.

Evesham picked up their third straight win after defeating basement club Bedworth 37-13.

Drew said: “We are going down there to win, not to let them play their game and giving them a chance to come at us.

“They’ve not lost a game so they will be wanting to knock us off the top of table but we’ve got some momentum from our victory at Woodrush so hopefully if we fire on all cylinders we can get the win.

“The performance at Woodrush was good and it builds on the confidence in training but there’s still a few things we need to work.

“We need to defend a little bit tighter and make the most of scoring opportunities – we missed too many conversions on Saturday.”

With a full strength squad expected to make the trip to Evesham, Drew told the Standard there will be no excuses if his side don’t come away with their fourth consecutive league victory.

“If Evesham stop us when we’re playing at the top of our game, then that’s fair play, but we know it will be tough,” he added.

“I’ve got a full strength squad so there will be no excuses if we lose. We need to be on our game for the full 80 minutes if we want to bring the points home.”

Meanwhile, Droitwich will host Clee Hill in the second round of the North Midlands RFU Senior Vase on Saturday, October 15.
