CRICKET - Droitwich Spa in heavy defeat against Astwood Bank

DROITWICH Spa CC were beaten by 126 runs against Astwood Bank as Jez Hanson top scored for the hosts with 68 on a tough afternoon.

The visitors posted a daunting 306-5 from their 50 overs as opener Jake Browning did most of the damage with 113 supported by Tom Pedley (61), Robert West (43), Tom Underhill (35) and Connor Adams (27).

This included two 112-run stands for the first two wickets with Martyn Davies (3-86) the pick of the Spa bowlers in the Worcestershire County League Premier Division clash.

Droitwich never looked like chasing down the total as they slumped to 79-6 with Hanson the only batter to show any real resistance.




Ajay Kumar (23), Ian Cottrill (19), Joe Heywood (12) and Harry Butler (11) were the only other batters to reach double figures as they were bowled out for 180 in 39.2 overs.

Spa’s 2nd XI also suffered defeat in a seven-wicket loss at Worcester Nomads as opener Kaz Singh’s 93 proved in vain .


However, the club’s 3rd XI eased to a 105-run win against Avoncroft after posting an impressive 332 all out from their 44.3 overs as Peter Gurr (81) top scored whilst Dave Watson (55) and Anthony Redfern (54) both his half-centuries.

Lastly, Spa’s 4th XI comfortably saw off Nuneaton by five wickets after bowling their opponents out for 126 as Luke Cooper and Paul Foster both took three wickets apiece.
