DROITWICH Spa CC began their Worcestershire County League Premier Division campaign with a thrilling two-wicket victory against Brockhampton.
Spa bowled their opponents out for 187 and, despite a mid-order wobble, chased down the total in 42.5 overs as Adam Keen struck the winning single.
Droitwich limited Brockhampton to 80-6 only for the visitors final four batters to all score double figures and be bowled out for 187.
Martyn Davies enjoyed a stunning spell with the ball taking (3-18) at an economy of 1.80 from 10 overs whilst Harry Butler (3-42), Phillip Thomas (2-23), Matthew Gurr (1-41) and Max Young (1-42) were all amongst the wickets.
And Young’s half century from 60 balls was pivotal to Droitwich’s innings as a steady start slipped to 105-5 before Young came to the crease and helped Spa tick along.
Droitwich eventually reached the total with two wickets left to spare with Ash Fearnall’s 38 and Davies’ 32 at the top of the order proving crucial.
Elsewhere, the club’s 2nd XI eased to a seven-wicket win against Astwood Bank CC in Division Five.
Spa won the toss and elected to field, bowling Astwood Bank out for 127, and reached the required total in 21 overs losing just three wickets.
Carl Thomson took (4-30) with the ball whilst before Ajay Kumar’s 63 with the bat ensured Spa secured a comfortable victory.
And the club’s 3rd XI skittled Chaddesley Corbett CC for just 57 in a friendly before reaching the total in 13.1 overs.
Nick Sankey took four wickets for three runs, with three maidens, from his five overs whilst George Taylor top scored with 34 with the bat.
Droitwich are next in action away at Pershore CC on Saturday, April 23 with the game set to start at midday at The Bottoms.
