Wychavon makes vow to Droitwich Spa Litter Squad that 'more bins are on the way'

Droitwich Editorial 21st Jan, 2022   0

WYCHAVON District Council has moved to reassure members of Droitwich Spa Litter Squad that more bins ‘are on the way’ for the A38 bypass lay-bys and the Berryhill Industrial Estate.

Clive Shearman said the group had met and been promised bins from both Wychavon and councillors but claimed a year on nothing had happened.

He added what was frustrating was the bins installed on the centre section of the A38 Bypass in 2020 had been used extensively and littering there had ‘virtually been eliminated’.

He claims litter in other areas where the group collects would also be eliminated if bins were there.

Sharon Casswell, the council’s head of client services, said: “The bins were originally installed as a trial while we monitored their impact and determined whether we would proceed with installing additional bins.

“Having decided we would go ahead, their installation was delayed for several reasons which we apologise for.

“The bins are on order and will be installed as soon as they are delivered, which we expect to be before the end of February.

“We’re very grateful for the efforts of Droitwich Spa Litter Squad, and all our volunteer litter pickers across the district, and will always do what we can to support them.”
