WYCHAVON District Council has flown the rainbow flag in celebration of Worcestershire Pride.

Chairman Coun Robert Raphael and leader Coun Bradley Thomas raised the Pride flag outside the Civic Centre in Pershore last Friday to celebrate the festival over the weekend.

The rainbow flag is a symbol for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBT+).

Worcestershire Pride, which is in its fourth year, was postponed due to a loss of essential funds as a result of the pandemic.

However, a virtual event was held over Facebook which featured live performances and talks from guest speakers.

Plans are in place for it to go ahead next year on September 18, 2021.

Coun Thomas said: “The flag is a positive symbol of acceptance and equality.

“It represents Wychavon’s promotion of diversity and inclusion in all its forms across our communities.”

Coun Raphael added: “It is an honour to fly the Pride Flag outside the Civic Centre.”
