THE MESSY Church held monthly at Droitwich’s St Andrews Church will celebrate its first anniversary this Saturday (September 17).

The event, from 10am to midday, is completely free and will see participants make party hats, streamers, drums, bunting and everything else needed for a good birthday party.

As well as the crafts, children will have a free party goodie bag and the event will feature, songs, a short talk and a free lunch of sandwiches and cake.

Messy Church is open to all children of all ages accompanied by an adult.

An average of 55 children go along each week and, with mums, dads and other adults, more than 100 people fill St Andrews during each Messy Church.

Rev Bev Jameson, Team Vicar Droitwich Spa, Salwarpe and Hindlip with Martin Hussingtree Dean of Women’s Ministry Diocese of Worcester, said she could not believe messy church is a year old.

“The volunteers who help run messy church love it as much as the families do.

“There is a real buzz.”

She added it was a great way for people to meet each other, form friendships, have a great time making crafts and hear about Jesus.

“Come long and join us for a really brilliant time,” she said.

Anne Clark, who with her daughters Ellie and Scarlet have been coming to Messy Church from the beginning, said “ The children love making the crafts, the songs and the bible stories and so do I.

“It is also great to meet new people and make friends.

“We look forward to Messy Church every month.”

The Parish Centre Cafe will be closed to the public that day.
