THE 145 bus service which travels from Droitwich to Longbridge will continue to operate despite fears it would be axed.

Diamond Buses stepped in to take over the service from transport operator Igo, who recently announced it would stop running the route.

For those living in Barnt Green, Cofton and Blackwell, the 145 bus service is the only form of public transport between Droitwich and Longbridge.

Rubery councillor, Coun Peter McDonald, said: “If Diamond Buses had not taken over it would have left a great deal of people housebound and feeling isolated.

“Not only is public transport a life-line for so many people but it’s also an important contributing factor to urban sustainability.

“Effective transportation networks which incoprorate public transit help lower the carbon footprint and make our communities more livable.”

Diamond Buses has been working closely with Transport for West Midlands and Worcestershire County Council to take on a number of emergency tender contracts from Igo.

A spokesperson from Diamond Buses said: “We are pleased we have been able to assist the local authorities in ensuring the service can be delivered continuously without inconvenience to the travelling public at such short notice.”
