Storm Dennis - Met Office warns of high winds and heavy rain across Worcestershire

Droitwich Editorial 14th Feb, 2020   0

A YELLOW weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for high winds and heavy rain for Droitwich and the rest of Worcestershire for most of the weekend as Storm Dennis arrives in the UK.

Heavy rain is forecast to start around 6am on Saturday and is expected to be more or less non-stop for 24 hours.

The deluge will be coupled with the high winds which will strengthen and reach their peak by the afternoon, bringing gusts of up to 50mph.

The Met Office predicts the wind could damage buildings and, along with the rain, could bring chaos to roads and rail.

Damage to track and overhead lines may see train delays and cancellations and journeys by road with the pending conditions will take longer so people, if they have to travel, should allow extra time for their journeys.

It comes a week after Storm Ciara which wreaked havoc with toppled trees blocking carriageways, roads being flooded and power cuts.

Worcestershire Highways teams, fire crews and the police were kept extremely busy for most of last Sunday and are expected to be busy again this weekend.
