STAFF at a Droitwich petrol station are raising funds to install vital life-saving equipment outside the garage.
Esso, on Worcester Road, is working alongside charity AEDdonate to raise £2,000 for the installation of a defibrillator for staff, customers and the local community to use.
It was store manager Natalie Hill’s idea. She thought the location would be perfect.
“The garage has 24-hour lighted access, CCTV coverage to ward off vandalism and it would be accessible to the public at all times.
“We have chosen AEDdonate because not only does it install the defibrillator but they also maintain it afterwards, which is very important.”
Up to 100,000 people a year die from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), 620 of these are people under the age of 35 and 270 are children in schools.
If defibrillation takes place within the first three minutes of a SCA, it is thought the patient’s chances of survival increase by 80 per cent or more.
“One of our cashier’s dad died and if there was a defibrillator he could have had a better chance.
“We are hoping people can get behind us and donate,” added Natalie.
