'So much to look forward to in 2022' - Nigel Huddleston MP's Westminster Diary

Droitwich Editorial 29th Jan, 2022   0

IN THE first few weeks of the new year I have been pleased to visit more business and community groups across the constituency as they begin the work of recovery from the awful virus that has affected so many of us for the last two years.

Recently I met Rod Gethins and his team at Grapevine Travel in Droitwich where we discussed the challenges faced by the tourism sector during the pandemic and the key role professional travel agents ABTA and ATOL bonded tour operators will play in providing booking confidence to travellers.

I also visited Fine Agrochemicals in Whittington where I saw first-hand their work with plant growth regulators for fruit, flowers, and other crops and heard about their incredible growth and impressive global footprint.

I was delighted to visit local scouts and join Schools Minister and neighbouring colleague Robin Walker MP as we attended the opening of a new building at Prince Henry’s High School. I look forward to more engagement with local schools in the coming months both in the constituency and on school visits to Westminster which are starting up again.

I want to express my thanks to everyone who booked their booster jab over the Christmas and new year period. I was pleased to receive mine in December and thank Jenny and everyone in the NHS and beyond who helped with the herculean effort that has hopefully mitigated the worst of the Omicron variant for now.

There are several events we can all look forward to this year such as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Nominations are now open for people to carry the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton around England, so if you know any local unsung heroes in Droitwich who you would like to put forward, please visit the Birmingham 2022 website for details.

If you are planning an event in your part of Droitwich for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee please do email me on [email protected] to let me know as I would be happy to share the details on my website and social media if that would be helpful.

I very much believe that after an extremely turbulent time for everyone across Mid Worcestershire that a return to the kind of engaging and inspiring events that unite us all will help to strengthen our communities who have endured a crisis with a great sense of togetherness that defines our national character.
