Salwarpe WI holds its first meeting of 2018

SALWARPE WI member Bea Radford was remembered at the group’s January meeting.

She passed away before Christmas and the women showed their support to another member who tragically lost her son at the same time.

President Jennifer Williams and another member Carol Glover were congratulated for reaching the finals of the County Bowls Championships and they were photographed with the silver cup they won as Worcestershire Bowling Association Ladies Pairs runners-up.

Members viewed the 100th birthday cards the group had received, including one from the twin WI at Wythall and a special sampler embroidered by Liz Morris to mark the centenary. That will be hung in the village hall where the group meets.

The longest-serving member Sheila Verity, who joined in 1963, was presented with a tub of yellow primroses.

Jane Baker reported back on the visit to the Hotter shoe shop in Worcester which everyone enjoyed, along with Hotter’s hospitality.

Reports then followed from our various clubs and details were given about the skittles team’s victorious start to the season.

Activities in January included a coffee morning at Churchfields and a walk along the canal from Droitwich to the marina and the Eagle & Sun, followed by an American supper and birthday cake made by Jane and iced by Sue Longhurst. Every member received a small gift.

The five proposed resolutions on the shortlist were detailed and members voted on their preference for the resolution to go forward for June’s annual meeting.

After business was concluded the women bought goods from the sales table, raising £57 for the group’s funds.

Salwarpe WI meets each month at the village hall where new members and guests are always welcome.
