RESIDENTS have been invited to honour all those who fought in the First World War at this year’s Salwarpe Fete.

The event will take place from 2pm on Saturday (August 16) at Churchfields Farm, Copcut Lane.

Visitors will be able to view the recently restored memorial bearing 11 names of villagers who lost their lives during the war.

There will also be a barbecue, cider tent, soft drinks and Churchfields ice-cream as well as a chance to win a Mercedes sports car and enjoy a number of games and activities.

All proceeds will go towards preserving the churches in Salwarpe and Martin Hussingtree.

One organiser Carol Hughes said: “The fete is the largest annual event in Salwarpe and attracts thousands of visitors each year.

“It offers a fun afternoon for the whole family while helping safeguard the future of our historic churches.”

Entry is £1 for adults and free for children and parking is free.
