MEMBERS of the Saltway Quilters in Droitwich will be toasting the group’s pearl anniversary this Wednesday (June 24).
They will get together at the Community Hall, Heritage Way, their regular meeting place, and past members from the organisation are also urged to go along for the celebration. The 30th birthday event will feature a summer buffet and entertainment.
The Saltway Quilters, who meet every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, are currently in the process of creating a special ‘Friendship Quilt’ to mark their marvellous milestone. Once completed, it will be raffled off at the group’s annual exhibition at Chawson Barn on September 18 and 19.
The Quilters group began in 1985 with just seven members and has expanded over the years to more than 30.
Many past and current members have exhibited quilts in regional and national exhibitions and have won a variety of awards.
Among the events at the group’s meetings are sit and sew sessions, regional and national speakers, workshops, do your own thing days and a mandatory cup of tea or coffee, along with a cake or two.
Chair Fiona Davies said: “We are a friendly group of ladies with a wide range of knowledge, ability and talent.
“We would welcome anyone who may be interested in starting to learn the basics of quilting and / or to learn new quilting techniques.”
A Back to Basics session is also being held on August 12 at 7.30pm, specifically for new members.
