THE FULL details have been revealed about The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations being held in Droitwich.

June 2 – Beacon lighting

A Beacon will be lit at St Augustines Church in Dodderhill at 9.45pm on Thursday, June 2, by Droitwich Spa Town Council leader and Wychavon District Council chairman, Coun Alex Sinton. He will be accompanied by Mayor of Droitwich Spa, Coun George Duffy.

A Droitwich Spa Salvation Army bugler will perform at 9.40pm before the lighting and Droitwich Spa Community Choir will also sing at the main entrance to Vines Park (next to the bridge) to mark the group’s 10th anniversary as part of the event.

Prior to that – at 9.15pm – the 2516 Droitwich Squadron ATC band will play at the main entrance to Vines Park – this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Droitwich Squadron’s formation.

At 10pm St Augustines Church bells will ring out to herald the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend.

The beacon will be one of thousands being lit across the UK and the Commonwealth as part of the programme announced by Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee Weekend.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to view and listen to the different aspects from the vantage point of Vines Park directly beneath St Augustines Church.

Coun Alex Sinton, leader of Droitwich Spa Town Council, said; “We are proud to be part of this momentous celebration.

“It is only appropriate that this unique milestone in history is marked with beacons and music.

“We are honoured to be part of this special event for Her Majesty, The Queen’s 70th year as our Monarch and Head of the Commonwealth on her Platinum Jubilee.”

Also across the UK and Commonwealth and in Droitwich on June 2

At 2pm hundreds of town criers and 50 Pearly Kings and Queens will announce a specially-written Proclamation heralding the lighting of the beacons later that day.

This will be delivered in Droitwich by Town Crier Edgar Harwood outside St Richards House and later throughout the Town.

June 4 – Fun-filled Jubilee bash

Events and activities will take place between 10.30am and 7pm on Saturday, June 4, when there will be a fun-packed day of live entertainment, food and fun for all ages.

A street party will take place in Victoria Square with local performers on stage and food and drink from Droitwich Spa Food Festival.

There will also be children’s rides, theatre, dance, music, craft activities and a swimming gala in the Lido.

A Jubilee exhibition and heritage walks will shed light on the town’s royal links.

A number of activities will be inspired by the Queen’s Green Canopy, and there will be a Platinum Jubilee Wishing Tree where people can add their own pledge leaf.

In the Lido Park will be a funfair, street art and brass bands.

And the extravaganza will conclude with a Great British Singalong of songs from 1952 to the current day.

A Droitwich Town Council spokesperson said: “Come along with your loved ones and make it a day to remember.”

Old Cock Inn and Friar Street party

After the official celebrations, the fun will continue at the Old Cock Inn which is hosting a Jubilee Street Party at Friar Street until late in the evening.

A Droitwich Town Council spokesperson said: “Come along with your loved ones and make it a day to remember.”

The events have been organised by a partnership between Droitwich Town Council, Curiosity Productions and Wychavon District Council.
