Renowned Droitwich Salt to be sold nationwide after Harvey Nichols deal

Droitwich Editorial 14th Jun, 2019   0

THE AWARD-WINNING Droitwich Salt is to go national – it will soon be sold at Harvey Nichols stores around the country and be available online.

The product is the first and only known salt made from pure brine springs which led to Harvey Nichols buying the gourmet salt to sell in its prestigious Foodmarkets throughout the UK.

From the heart of England in the rural county of Worcestershire, Droitwich Salt has been recognised locally and internationally for centuries.

It was in 2017 when production of Droitwich Salt began for the first time in more than a century – family-run farm Churchfields revived the local salt production and since then the natural salt has been widely available in independent delicatessens and farm shops up and down the country, including the likes of Bayley & Sage and Daylesford, as well as selected branches of the Midcounties Co-Op, and via Ritter Courivaud for the hospitality sector.

Droitwich Salt is totally unique, sourced from naturally occurring brine springs, which have been active for thousands of years.

The springs exist beneath Droitwich and its surrounding countryside, in the Heart of England.

The crystal clear brine is ten times saltier than sea water, with only the waters of the Dead Sea known to equal in concentration.

Droitwich Salt is believed to be one of the purest salts available; its use documented before the start of written history.

Will Kerton of Churchfields Saltworks, said: “While we’re a small family business, our vision is to become a major player in the wider UK gourmet salt market and firmly position Droitwich Salt as a delicious natural alternative.

“Having our product in Harvey Nichols strengthens our position and we couldn’t be more proud.

“Having grown up in the area myself, I am delighted to be part of a product revival with such local and international importance.”

Rob Graves, Head of Food & Beverage Buying at Harvey Nichols, said: “We are very excited to be offering a range of Droitwich Salt to our customers.

“These salts are transformative, with each flavour adding incredible depth to your favourite dishes.

“We pride ourselves in offering our customers quality products and we believe these multi-award-winning salts are just that.”

Alongside Pure Droitwich Salt, Harvey Nichols will be selling the full range of flavoured salts from Churchfields Saltworks.

These include Charcoal, Sea Truffle and Coastline Droitwich Salt, which have been created in partnership with TV Michelin-Starred chef, Brad Carter and are inspired by ingredients indigenous to Great Britain.

The range also includes Beech Smoked Droitwich Salt, created by gently smoking the salt in Beech Wood in a Norwegian smoking kiln at Macneils Smokehouse.

Since its launch in 2017, Droitwich Salt has achieved a number of high-profile awards to include a Great Taste Award, Gold and Silver Awards for Best New Products at Ludlow Food Festival 2018, and Best Sustainable Business Worcestershire Award, at the Tourism Awards Hereford & Worcester.

Droitwich Salt is available to buy today at all UK Harvey Nichols Stores, including the Harvey Nichols online store, priced from £4.95. For more information about Droitwich Salt and for a full list of stockists please visit www.droitwichsalt.com.
