POLICE officers used their finely-honed driving skills to help out an 87-year-old driver who had gone out shopping and not returned home after nine hours.

The incident happened around 3am on the Worcester Road in Droitwich where officers from Worcestershire Operational Policing Unit found the motorist driving along lost and confused.

The police used a TPAC – usually used to stop drivers trying to evade capture – to pull alongside and in front of the pensioner’s car and bring it to a safe standstill.

The driver was then returned safely home to their family.
