FORMER TV presenter Coun Peter Tomlinson has been elected as the new Chairman for Worcestershire County Council, writes Elliot Ball.

Peter, who represents Ombersley, is best known for being the presenter of ‘Tiswas’, a TV show that ran for eight years from 1974 to 1982.

As well as an illustrious career in television, Peter has represented Wychavon as a district councillor for the past eight years and has been a Worcestershire County Councillor since 2016.

After his retirement, Peter became High Sheriff of the West Midlands, within that role accompanying Prince Edward to the official opening of a new Burns Centre at Birmingham’s Children Hospital.

Peter was instrumental in the £3million worth of fund-raising for the Burns Centre, as part of his role as director of communications, marketing and fund-raising for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

“I am incredibly honoured to become Worcestershire County Council’s new chairman,” Coun Tomlinson said.

“I look forward to representing and promoting this county which, though small, punches way above its weight in so many areas.”

Coun Bob Brookes, the county councillor for Droitwich East, was voted in as vice-chairman.
