THE NEW Lee Russell Independent Funeral Directors was officially opened by the Mayor of Droitwich Spa, Coun George Duffy, on Monday.
Mr Russell was originally born in Worcester but spent most of his childhood growing up in Droitwich, worked in the town for a number of years and has many family and friends there.
He wanted to open the town’s only independently family-owned funeral home two years ago but was unable to due to the pandemic.

Now this month he has finally been able to open the doors, offering services to the people of Droitwich and surrounding areas.
He said: “I chose to become a funeral director after the passing of my grandparents and two close friends of mine. I wanted to give something back and to help people.”
He started as a trainee funeral director for Droitwich Spa Funeral Services, now known as AV Band.
After a number of years he was serving families in Worcester, Malvern, Upton-upon-Severn and throughout Hereford and Worcestershire.
He then worked for an independent funeral director and helped set up its Worcester branch.
There he was the funeral home manager and funeral director and he has worked for other independent companies which have served their communities for hundreds of years.
The new company offers a 24-hour service, pre-payment funeral plans, non-attendance services, traditional burial and cremations, green and back to nature funerals, grief chat and bereavement services and general advice and guidance.
Mr Russell added: “Droitwich has always been close to my heart and I feel privileged to be able to serve the local community once more.
“I pride myself on providing a professional, personal and caring service to all my families.”
