DEMENTIA sufferers will be able to attend the first support session held at the UK’s only Meeting Centre in Droitwich.
The scheme has been designed to help breakdown the stigma around the condition, reduce social isolation and promote more inclusive services for people affected by dementia.
A dedicated team of staff and volunteers will provide the support programme at the Droitwich Spa Community Hall, on Heritage Way, every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from September 23 between 10am and 4pm.
Those who attend will be able to take part in recreational and social activities, such as singing, shopping, reminiscence, music, dance, sporting groups, creativity sessions and outings.
All sessions will be built around the hobbies and interests of the people who attend.
Carers and families are fully involved in the support programme alongside the person living with dementia which includes friendly and informative discussion groups, assistance and support with practical, emotional and social issues and regular one-to-one advice and support.
Meeting centres have been successful in the Netherlands for over ten years as they provide a place where people are supported to understand and adapt to living with dementia. They aim at offering a person-centred combined approach to supporting people living with dementia and their carers and family members.
Anyone wanting to go along should visit www.eventbrite.co.uk to register their attendance.
