ONE man was seriously injured and a horse died following a crash near Ombersley at 11.40pm on Sunday night.

A white Vauxhall Astra and a silver Vauxhall Vivaro were involved in the collision with the horse on the A449 near the Mitre Oak, Crossways Green.

The driver of an Astra, a man is in his 30s, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The Vivaro driver, also in his 30s, sustained minor injuries and didn’t require hospital treatment.

The owner of the horse has been informed of the animal’s death and police now believe around five horses were walking along the stretch of the A449 before the collision.

The A449 between the Mitre Oak island heading towards Worcester and Crossways Green was closed for most of the day.

PC Owen Atwell from West Mercia Police said: “Enquiries are ongoing as we try to establish the circumstances surrounding this collision.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the horses on the A449 on Sunday or who may have witnessed the collision.”

West Mercia Police are investigating the crash and anyone with any information should call police on 101.
