The pedestrian was hit by a lorry under the bridge on the A38, near Junction 5 of the M5.

An ambulance, paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance with a doctor on board were sent to the scene.

The man had suffered multiple serious injuries and was flown to the Major Trauma Unit at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The road was shut in both directions for several hours before opening later that evening.
