A local housebuilder is supporting visually impaired people to play tennis.

As part of an ongoing relationship with Droitwich Tennis Club, the team at Redrow Homes Midlands, which is currently building homes at The Orchards in Droitwich, is sponsoring the club’s visually impaired tennis sessions.

The sessions give local people access to the sport, and use a slightly different court layout and specially designed sound balls, which enable players of different abilities to use their combined senses to locate and connect with the ball.

As part of housebuilder’s commitment to building thriving communities, which includes encouraging sport and exercise, the Redrow Homes Midlands team has provided funding and volunteers to give back to the community.

Lewis Kavanagh, Area Sales Manager for The Orchards, said: “It’s brilliant to be involved and do our bit to support this wonderful community initiative.

“I’m very proud to be helping Neil and the club with their efforts to provide local people access to tennis no matter their ability. We’re looking forward to working alongside Neil and supporting the brilliant work the club does for many years to come.”

Jean Ellis, tennis player, added: “Without Redrow’s help, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to play the sport, which most people don’t think is available to the visually impaired community.”

Neil Bates, a coach at Droitwich Tennis Club, said: “The club and the visually impaired players benefit greatly from Redrow Homes Midlands’ support, both in funding and volunteers, like Lewis, on the ground, helping us out.

“Without this support, we would not be able to provide these wonderful sessions which allow local people the opportunity to embrace this wonderful sport.”

The Orchards is a sought-after development of two, three, four and five-bedroom home, situated in the thriving town of Droitwich.

Located just six miles from Worcester and just over 30 miles from Birmingham, the superb location offers the benefits of rural setting with excellent city links.
