Lido Park tennis court campaign edges closer to its target after funding boost during Droitwich's St Richard's Festival

A SUCCESSFUL time at Droitwich’s St Richard’s Festival has provided a welcome boost to the campaign to resurface the Lido Park tennis courts with the final target nearing ever closer.

The ‘Leave a Lido Legacy’ drive, promoted over the May bank holiday weekend event, urged individuals, families and businesses alike to sponsor a square of the courts in return for a donation.

Mum Elaine Ball, who is leading the courts campaign, said the response from residents and visitors was ‘amazing’, generating £900 in donations.

And, she added, it gave campaigners the chance to speak to companies which wanted to help.

“So many people we spoke to were already aware of the campaign and what we are trying to achieve.

“Everyone who sponsors a square will be recognised on the ‘Board of Fame’ which will be a weatherproof board containing all of the sponsors names, placed next to the courts when they are refurbished.

“This will stay there for many years to come.”

In addition to the many individuals who joined the campaign, a number of companies stepped forward as major sponsors, donating £500 or more to the cause.

These included Webbs garden centre, SN Financial, Plaswed Print, Persimmon Homes and Nicol &Co estate agents.

It now means more than £37,000 of the £40,000 needed has been raised.

And when that figure is reached, Wychavon District Council has already said it would match-fund with another £40,000 to ensure the £80,000 needed to revamp the courts is in place.
