DROITWICH’S Lanterns in the Park which took place last Friday (December 12) has been hailed a great success after between 500 and 600 people turned out for the festive extravaganza.

The event in the Lido Park provided a variety of seasonal entertainment for those who went along.

As well as the parade of lanterns, there was also carol singing and performances by Droitwich singing sensation Abby Inez and the Salvation Army band.

The Mayor of Droitwich, Coun Bob Brookes and Father Christmas were also at the event, which was backed by estate agent Nicol and Co. The company donated £500 to help fund it.

Peter Hawkins, the chairman of Droitwich Arts Network, said: “We have had some very good feedback and it was a lot better than last year’s.

“We have also learnt a few things for next year – Lanterns in the Park is going to get bigger and better.”

Peter concluded by praising Liz Dutton, from the community choir who he said ‘did a super job’ undertaking most of the organisation.
