WITH THE Met Office issuing a hot weather alert and temperatures in Bromsgrove and Rubery expected to reach 28°C, Worcestershire’s Director of Public Health has urged people to take care of themselves and others.

It is predicted it will potentially remaining hot and humid until Sunday and the risk of thunderstorms is also higher.

Francis Howie has reiterated Public Health England guidelines which warn people to stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm and drinking plenty of fluids.

It is also advised people wear more loosely-fitting cotton clothing and a hat.

Sunscreen of at least SPF15 with UVA protection should also be applied and people are being urged to keep an eye on children, the elderly and those with serious health issues who may need extra support.

Mr Howie said: “It’s very easy to forget that we need to look after ourselves in the heat.

“We urge people to check forecasts and take sensible precautions such as keeping out the heat at the hottest times, and staying hydrated.”

People should also try to turn off unused electrical equipment and keep living spaces cool.
