I FEEL very privileged to have been chosen as your town’s Mayor from May 2019 and continuing for a second term in Office through 2020 into 2021.
Throughout I have been ably assisted by both my consort Dilys Moy and our deputy mayor – Coun RG Beale.
Without much warning we have found ourselves embroiled this past year in a huge battle against the dreadful Coronavirus pandemic.
Many people have suffered much anguish, hardship, heartache and loss during these difficult months.
Despite this everyone has shown great spirit and resolve with self-discipline towards maintaining the important social distancing and isolation measures.
So much we have previously taken for granted has been sorely missed during 2020 and we hope for normal life to return as quickly as possible.
As Christmastime approaches there is new hope and much anticipation brought by the new vaccine.
I applaud the unwavering endeavour and tremendous dedication of the scientists, medical professionals, our NHS and all frontline key workers.
This stoic determination and community spirit has also been maintained by the many individuals, volunteers, groups, charities, churches, schools and all manner of support networks within our town and surrounding area.
Selflessness, the desire to help others and protect the vulnerable and taking a real sense of pride in the community where we live are all important life qualities.
During September I was proud to accompany Coun Richard Morris to receive and host the High Sheriff of Worcestershire visiting the town.
The strong consensus reached from the day was a definite sense of civic pride and that Droitwich
Spa is coping impressively well with the pandemic and is very much open for business through initiative, adaption and determination.
The imminent vaccine roll-out will now further confidence and optimism towards a better and brighter 2021.
