AN ILLUSTRATED talk entitled ‘From Quakers to Catholics – The Galton family of Hadzor and the Lunar Society’ will be given by Andrew Harris in Droitwich.
The presentation will take place at the latest meeting of the Historic Droitwich and Dodderhill Research Group at the Olive Branch Community Centre, Ombersley Street East/Winnett’s Lane.
The group’s AGM will take place first at 10am on November 3, followed by the talk.
The presentation will centre on Samuel Galton Junior, a Quaker and father of John Howard Galton of Hadzor Hall, who was a member of the well-known Lunar Society.
‘The Lunar Men’, based in Birmingham included several famous people, including Matthew Boulton, James Watt, Erasmus Darwin, James Priestley and Josiah Wedgwood.
John Howard Galton, who moved to Hadzor in 1823, and his descendants lived there until his grandson died in 1928 when the family had become prominent Catholics.
A selection of local historical maps, plans and panels from the recent exhibition of the restoration of 31 High Street will also be on display, along with a new limited edition postcard featuring the restoration of the solar range of 31 High Street.
Everyone is welcome and admission will be £2 per person.
