THE HILARIOUS farce Charley’s Aunt gets under way at Droitwich’s Norbury Theatre tonight (Thursday).
Performances of the play take place at 7.30pm tonight, tomorrow and Saturday (May 5, 6 and 7) and at the same time next week (Thursday to Saturday, May 12 to 14).
The story centres on Lord Fancourt Babberley, an undergraduate whose friends Jack and Charley persuade him to impersonate the latter’s aunt.
Complications arise, including the arrival of the real aunt and the attempts of an elderly fortune hunter to woo the bogus one.
It was first performed at the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds on February 29, 1892, with the 130-year-old piece having stood the test of time.
Tickets – at £12 (£11 concessions) are available at norburytheatre.co.uk or by calling the box office 01905 770154.
