YOUNGSTERS from Westlands First School in Droitwich have collected a huge amount of food through their harvest festivals.

The items will now be distributed to the town’s foodbank so it can be given to families and individuals in the community who need it.

The children also sang harvest songs and wrote and read harvest poems.

Head of key stage two, teacher Sian Lines said: “In the catchment area we have families who have had to use the foodbank so the children wanted to help.

“We went on the website to see what food they were looking for and then asked for the donations.

“We only requested one food item from each parent but people were bringing carrier bags full.

“The generosity of the parents and children has been overwhelming.”

The children also sorted out the food and helped carry it out to the representative’s car.

The response was so great two harvest festivals had to be held to accommodate everyone who wanted to be part of it.
