Festive Droitwich lights display to raise funds for Acorns

A STUNNING Spa Christmas display has been lighting up Droitwich and helping a hospice as car-loads of kind-hearted visitors have donated to the cause.

This will be the third year the Battin family from Birch Coppice have put up their festive display.

In the first year, word spread about the extravagant show and, after seeing so many visitors flock, Alison Battin, her son Ben and stepsons Edward and George put a collection tin outside, with the cash going to St Richard’s Hospice. Edward has also designed a notice to go with the tin, which this year will be for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Alison said the note wished children everywhere a magical Christmas and she hoped the cash donated would help make that a reality.

“We are always thinking of children at this time of year and know how fortunate we are to have four healthy boys.

“All the family enjoy putting the decorations up – we call it our grotto and get a great sense of enjoyment watching cars pull up to have a look.”

This year there are nine inflatables, including two new ones – one of them is an 8ft reindeer.

“Normally we have to replace one or two a year as they get damaged in the rain and wind and it has been suggested to us we just donate the money we spend on decorations direct to charity but watching people’s faces light up is well worth the expense to us.”

The best time to see the decorations is before 9am or between 4pm and 11pm.

Alison also urged anyone with any Christmas lights they no longer wanted to contact her on 07518 605809.
