Family provides new excavator after theft from Perdiswell Muslim Cemetery

ONE of Worcester’s most prominent Asian families have donated a new excavator to replace the one stolen from Worcester’s Muslim Cemetery at Perdiswell.

The Khawaja family came to the UK in the early 1960s, moved to Worcester in the 1980s and have a number of businesses in the city.

Former Mayor of Worcester Coun Allah Ditta was on hand to receive the new excavator for the cemetery and thanked the family for their donation.

“I know they have been supporting and fund-raising within their family since 2004 and they will go on to support the cemetery in the future,” he said.

“The cemetery survives solely on the money raised locally and receives no government support and so donations like this and others which have been made by other Muslim families are what enables us to keep going.”
