POPULAR Droitwich vicar Rev Bev Jameson bid an emotional farewell to Droitwich at the weekend when her final service took place
More than 100 people from St Augustine, St Andrews and St Peters in Droitwich, St Michaels in Salwarpe and St Michael and All Angels in Martin Hussingtree attended a joint 10am Holy Communion Service at Salwarpe.
Later in the afternoon over 40 people negotiated the Velo Birmingham road closures to attend the Sunday service at 3pm at St Andrews Church in Droitwich.
Rev Bev said although she was looking forward to her new role she was very sad to leave so many friends and supporters in Droitwich.
“Endings and beginnings always come with mixed emotions.
“It has been an honour to have been governor of Droitwich Spa High School and St Peter’s Droitwich Academy.
“But wherever I go I will always carry the people of Droitwich Spa, Salwarpe and Hindlip with Martin Hussingtree and all the Messy Church children and families in my heart and until we meet again may God hold them all in the palm of his hand.”
John Hughes, treasurer at Salwarpe and Hindlip with Martin Hussingtree, made a presentation, congratulated her on her new role, thanked her for everything she had achieved in almost three years and wished her well for the future.
He praised her for starting the Messy Church which had become popular, bringing many children and families to church.
“It is a great personal tribute to you that over 60 children attended your final Messy Church last week.
“ We were proud of you when in 2016 you were appointed to the role of Dean of Women’s Ministry to represent and support ordained women across the Diocese of Worcester.
“You were soon spreading your influence to a wider audience.”
He added she was very hospitable, opening up the Salwarpe Rectory for social events.
Rev Bev will now become the Rector of St Mary the Virgin in Lymm in Chester Diocese.
