EIGHT fire crews spent several hours battling a massive blaze at a large nursery and farm shop in Ombersley yesterday.

As well as the buildings on site the firefighters from Bromsgrove, Droitwich, Wyre Forest, Upton, Malvern and Evesham, there was also a large ‘bullet’ tank of highly flammable Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) to contend with.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service Station Commander Jon Laight praised the crews for some great firefighting to get both the blaze and the hazards under control.

“All the crews worked hard and were there throughout the night damping down the area.”

The fire was so intense the main A449 Ombersley slip road to the A4133, through Holt Fleet to the A443 Tenbury Road was closed in both directions.

It was re-opened this morning.
