RESIDENTS from Droitwich’s Woodland View care home got to explore the waterways on a canal boat.

They spent a relaxing day in the sun aboard the Pamela May 2, the Droitwich Spa Community barge, sharing stories about their youth and enjoying an afternoon tea.

Edna ‘Noddy’ Warner, who was featured in the Standard after turning 100 this year especially enjoyed reminiscing about her family holidays on the Thames and the Norfolk Broads and had the group in stitches when declared ‘I could walk faster than this boat’.

The group brought along Woody the Woodland View mascot – a squirrel designed for the home by 13-year-old Evie Pinder from Droitwich High School.

Eight smaller Woodys, dubbed the ‘Woodettes’, have also been made and are on tour around Droitwich.

The care home is inviting any local businesses, schools or community organisations to get in touch if they would like one of the Woodettes to visit them.

Resident Evelyn Long, 91, enjoyed being ‘out and about’ in her hometown and said: “Being a Droitwich Spa lady, I used to walk these canals with my husband quite often. It brought back a lot of happy memories for me.”

Cindy Hawkins, Woodland View’s home manager, added: “‘It’s really important to us to be able to take our residents on special day trips like this one.

“We always make sure our residents’ days are filled with opportunities to have fun, and do things they really enjoy doing – it’s a fundamental part of the care we provide.”

Woodland View is inviting the local community to its Open Week, running from July 25 to 30.

Visitors will be able to look around the care home and speak to staff, while also enjoying live entertainment, a petting zoo, film showings, and refreshments.

It will culminate on July 30 with a fun-filled Summer Fayre – a day of family entertainment which is open to the general public.

Woodland View, operated by Ideal Carehomes, is a residential and dementia care home.

It is welcoming new residents for short- and long-term placements with a unique inclusive fee to give peace of mind to residents and their families.
