AN INDEPENDENT Droitwich girls school has announced today it will be opening for boys as well from this September.

RGS Dodderhill will be available to boys from two to 11 (pre-school and primary school) and, bosses say, the provision for girls will not be affected.

RGS Dodderhill is the only independent school in the town and the community has eagerly anticipated increasing opportunities for opening up to boys as there was no previous provision for them.

Sarah Atkinson, RGS Dodderhill headmistress, said it was an exciting time for the school.

“RGS Dodderhill is such a happy school with a wealth of fantastic facilities.

We already have a fully Co-Educational Nursery on-site that is thriving, and I am delighted that we will be welcoming boys into our Reception class and throughout our Prep School up to Year Six from September.

“The culture of excellence we have here at the school of nurturing talent and delivering education over many years will definitely benefit the boys who come here.”

She added she was also pleased the commitment to the senior girls-only education would continue.

“My experience has been that they really benefit from it. The focus we can provide really develops their confidence.”

As part of the RGS Family of Schools, boys from RGS Dodderhill will transition seamlessly to RGS Worcester for year seven, while girls from RGS Dodderhill will transition for sixth-form at RGS Worcester.

John Pitt, RGS Worcester headmaster, added: “The beauty of offering such choice across the RGS Family of schools is there will be something for everyone.

“RGS Dodderhill will now provide local families with an excellent education for girls and boys up to the end of year six.

“The focus will then be on girls-only choice for senior education (years seven to 11 at RGS Dodderhill).

Girls then have the opportunity to join the RGS Worcester Sixth Form and experience a fully co-educational environment ahead of higher education or whatever they choose to do after school.

Parents and pupils, therefore, have the very best of both worlds and a genuine choice for each child.”
