A MAN who has dedicated his life to sport in Droitwich Spa and a woman who has volunteered to help people in one of the town’s most vulnerable areas were among the winner of the annual Wychavon Community Recognition Awards.
The Sporting Hero Award was given to Chris Andrews, who has been at Droitwich Boxing Club for the last 40 years.
Samantha Ellis took the Volunteer of the Year Award for her work organising events and activities on the Westlands estate.
The nominations featured inspirational stories of individuals who had gone above and beyond to help people of all ages improve their neighbourhood, clubs, society or community in the past year.
Coun Rob Adams, Wychavon District Council’s portfolio holder for community, engagement,culture and sport, said: “Once again, it has been wonderful meeting the people who selflessly give up their time to help others and hearing their inspirational stories.
“The Community Recognition Awards are a great way of recognising the residents who do so much to make Wychavon an amazing place to live and work.”
