Droitwich Town Council gives backing to Brine Baths scheme

DROITWICH Town Council expressed its support for the campaign to bring the famous brine baths back to the town.

During Monday’s meeting Coun Bob Brookes said the move would ‘make economic sense in promoting tourism and creating local jobs’ and ‘would create something unique in the whole of Europe’.

Now a registered Community Interest Company (CIC), Save Our Brine Baths (SOBBs) has made huge strides towards the goal and its planning application to Wychavon District Council (WDC) has now been ‘validated’.

Approximately £2,500 has been raised by the group, covering reports stipulated by council planners.

Numerous events have been put on to raise money for the project, including a recent pub quiz at St Andrew’s Hotel, which also brought in £535.

Coun Brookes congratulated SOBBs for its efforts, adding the scheme would put the ‘Spa’ back into Droitwich Spa.

He called for the town council to record its thanks to the group for its efforts and urged Wychavon to ‘do everything reasonably in its power to support, work positively with, and facilitate the work of SOBBs to achieve the group’s new Brine Baths objective’.

The motion received unanimous approval from town councillors.
