Droitwich teenager finishes second in national design competition

Droitwich Editorial 26th Jul, 2017   0

A TEENAGER from Droitwich Spa High School has finished second in the final of the National Technology, Design and Innovation (TDI) Challenge.

Beth Martin took part in the event which sees students submit their GCSE, A Level and BTEC Design and Technology coursework projects to be judged by a panel of experts from the very top of the design industry.

The contest, which has been running over a decade, is split into three categories based on age, 14 to 16, and 17 to 19 where Beth placed second.

Beth’s project, entitled ‘Children’s Light for Birmingham Library’, attracted a lot of praise from the judges.

One said: “Beth showed a good range of manufacturing processes in her project, the ideas displayed in the final design were very well explored and showed a great level of attention to detail.”

Beth’s teacher and assistant head of design and technology Andy Millicheap added he was very proud of her achievements.

He said: “The TDI Challenge is recognition of the amazing talent we have in our schools.

“By putting forward my students, I am able to show the confidence that I have in their abilities as well as give them an opportunity to show their work to a wider audience.”
