YOUNG PEOPLE from Droitwich Spa High School epitomised the true Christmas spirit when they put on a festive party for senior citizens in the Spa.
This is the 14th time the event, which is organised by year nine students, has been held.
The party is the highlight of the winter term and informally marks the opening of the Christmas season, featuring carol singing, gift giving and the eating of mince pies.
Elizabeth Whitehouse, who oversees the party, said it was an important event in so many ways, both for the students and the older people who all get so much out of it.
“There are very few opportunities in which teenagers get a chance to interact with older members of the community beyond their own family, so this is a great way for them to demonstrate that the image that is presented of teenagers is not always a fair one.
“The school has a well-deserved reputation for being well integrated into the wider community and this is one of the key events in our calendar.
“The students always comment afterwards how much they have enjoyed it and how much they learn from their guests.”
The party was held at the school on December 9.
The guests were entertained with music and singing before being served a Christmas lunch and receiving a present from the students at the school.
