A DROITWICH businesswoman who helped safeguard the town’s Remembrance Parade and Poppy Appeal has been given a prestigious accolade.
Katherine Holmes received the Good Citizen Award from Droitwich Mayor, Coun Graham Beale, on June 12 after being chosen for it by Droitwich Rotary Club.
In 2013, the Droitwich Branch of the British Legion ‘collapsed’, and there was doubt as to whether the Poppy Appeal and Remembrance Service and Parade would be held in 2014.
Royal British Legion stalwarts, chairman Steve Moore and secretary Alan Newman, asked if the Rotary Club of Droitwich Spa could help.
One of the biggest problems on Remembrance Sunday was the sale, distribution and arrangement of wreaths, along with the collection and recording of payments.
A number of volunteers came forward including Katherine who works for the International chocolate producer, Ferrero Rocher.
Katherine overcame all the obstacles with ease and brought transparency and financial clarity.
She has continued to be involved this year, along with the Rotary Club and British Legion team.
