Droitwich residents urged to have their say on Raven Hotel revamp

RESIDENTS wanting to have their say on the latest plans for Droitwich’s Raven Hotel can go along to a consultation on Thursday (August 7).

The event, which will enable those who go along to see the latest designs for the development, is being held between 2pm and 8.30pm at the Council Chamber, Town Council Offices, Victoria Square.

Origin3 – the firm behind the scheme – confirmed to The Standard last month that residents would soon be able to have their say on the newest application for the site.

It comes after a meeting on July 10 which involved discussions betweeen representatives from the firm behind the scheme – Orgin3 – councillors and residents.

Those gathered called for more time for people to voice their opinons as, many claimed, the development would shape that part of Droitwich town centre for the next 100 years and beyond.

Many concerns were raised during the get-together, not with the overall application but with the finer details of the plan.

There were heated exchanges about the blocks of flats which will house ten two-bedroom and two one-bedroom apartments and those gethered were also very vocal about the modern design of the development which many felt did not fit in with the overall character of the town.

Points were also made about the lack of parking for the restaurant and the boxed in balconies on some of the flats.

One of the Orgin3’s architects, Peter Martin, who has been working on the scheme said it was not uncommon for restaurants in town centres to have no car park but people’s concerns would be passed onto his client.

He added how they had tried to create a proposal with a contemporary design which had connections with the past.

And added that the company had been trying to reflect the main rhythm of the surrounding buildings by including similar features and details.

He also said the developers were anxious not to create or mimic poor replicators of building which were built 200 years ago, in the 18th century.

Coun Bob Brookes said he would like the developers to push the pause button so they could modify the external architecture.

He added: “We are not against the development, we just want it to be a nice one.

“The town will welcome you – providing you come with the right approach.

“I am extremely pleased I think this is the best eay forward.

“This means the developers and residents and come up with the best prosal for the town.”
